Zakat Selangor Received Business Zakat RM5.3 Million From 25 Corporate Companies

SHAH ALAM, December 20, 2017 – Lembaga Zakat Selangor today received business zakat from 25 companies amounting to RM5,348,210.05. The ceremony was officiated by the Chairman of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), Dato ‘Setia Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa, at Wisma PKPS here.

SIRIM Berhad topped the list of companies that paid business zakat, had handed over zakat amounted to RM1,401,175.00, followed by SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd of RM934,372.10 and Kumpulan Semesta Sdn. Bhd. who issued their business zakat amounted to RM746,295.78.

While other companies who also hand over their business zakat included, Triplc Ventures Sdn. Bhd. who issued zakat of RM645,571.88, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad of RM400,000.00 and SME Bank of RM370.00.00. Meanwhile, SIRIM STS PT. Bhd. discharging business zakat amounting to RM255,862.00, CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad of RM150,000.00 and PNSB Insurance Brokers Sdn. Bhd cashing out business zakat of RM100,000.00

At the same ceremony, Zakat Selangor also presented various types of zakat aid amounting to RM432,770.79. Fatimah Najiyah Abdullah received education assistance amounting to RM289,550.00 to further her medical studies at MAHSA University. Meanwhile, Jaharatul Dini Karen Lee Abdullah also received education assistance amounting to RM49,260.00 to extend the field of civil engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Both are the mualaf asnaf who are assisted by the Selangor Zakat.

Meanwhile, two individuals have received medical aid. They are Ahmad Shuhaimi Abu Hassan who is a faqr asnaf that registered with Zakat Selangor, receiving medical assistance for dialysis treatment amounting to RM35,280.00 and Faizalril Zainon received medical assistance worth RM33,708.00 for the treatment of his lungs problems. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zabidi Sahar received RM24,972.79 worth of home repairs.

The ceremony also witnessed the presentation of appreciation to celebrate the corporate company participating in the ‘Kasihku Zakat Selangor’ program throughout 2017. Zakat Selangor introduced the ‘Kasihku Zakat Selangor’ program to provide space for zakat payers especially among corporate companies to help the need for zakat recipients in Selangor which is growing.

Through the ‘Kasihku Zakat Selangor’, related companies may apply for re-distribution of 3/8 or 37.5 percent of total zakat payments issued during the year to be distributed to faqr and miskin asnaf registered with Zakat Selangor including fisabilillah asnaf.

For this year, the distribution contribution received from the ‘Kasihku Zakat Selangor’ program amounted to RM10.7 million with participation from 30 corporate companies including individuals

Simultaneously, Zakat Selangor in collaboration with TV AlHijrah also launched the Kasihku TV program which will begin on December 26, every Tuesday at 6.30pm.

Also present were Officer in Charge Zakat Selangor cum Head of Asnaf Distribution Operations Division, Abdul Basith Hamid and Head of Collection Division Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini.
